Installing drivers for LNK-2 and LNK-34
Supported Windows OS versions:
• Windows 10 (32-bit / 64-bit)
• Windows 8.1 / 8 (32-bit / 64-bit)
• Windows 7 (32-bit / 64-bit)
• Windows VISTA (32-bit / 64-bit)
• Windows XP (32-bit / 64-bit)
• Windows Server 2016 / 2012 R2 / 2008 R2
NOTE: Microsoft have ended support for certifying XP and VISTA through their WHCK test program. As such current builds will still work on XP and VISTA but are not Microsoft certified. Link to FTDI page
Configuring the LNK-34 Communication Cable
After installing (or updating) the drivers, you need to connect the LNK-34 adapter to the USB port, open the device manager and do the following:
Configuring the LNK-2 Communication Cable
After installing the driver and connecting the cable, a new device should appear in the «Device Manager» list in the «Ports (COM and LPT)» section, for example, «USB Serial Port (COM9)». If such a device is not listed, it means that the driver is not installed correctly or the device is not connected or is malfunctioning. Some devices allow you to change the used COM port number after connecting the device, this installation is performed in the device driver properties. The COM port number may also depend on the choice of the USB connector into which the device is connected.
AKM communication setup
The received COM port number (in the example «COM9») must be specified to the AKM. To do this, go to the menu «Connection -> STD_RS_KWP … -> Protocol Settings ..» or press CTRL + F8 and select «Protocol Settings». In the settings window, select the desired COM port. The latest AKM automatically offers to select only those ports that are found in the system.
Communication problems
Some USB-COM adapters, such as the BF-810, may work erratically in the presence of engine noise. If a situation arises when communication with the unit is unexpectedly interrupted, it is necessary to stop the connection with the unit (F8), disconnect the adapter from USB for 2 seconds and reconnect it, then establish communication with the unit (F8) again. If communication interruptions are repeated very often, then you need to look for the source of the problem in the configuration of the controller harness or the laptop ground.
Software interface for working with ABIT USB communication cable — CAN / K-Line
The ABIT USB communication cable — CAN / K-Line (also known as the CAN / K-Line USB adapter) is designed for software interaction between software running on a PC running the Windows operating system and control units (ABIT, Bosch, Cummins). The communication cable is connected to a standard USB port on a PC; for connecting to a control unit, the cable has a standard OBD-II diagnostic connector connector.
The interaction between the Adapter and the PC via the USB interface is carried out using FTDI FT232 (USB to serial UART interface) microcircuit. For software work with the adapter on the PC, you need to install the D2XX FTDI drivers (Future Technology Devices International Ltd.) for the Windows operating system.
